Kotozute
Terms of use
Last updated: September 5, 2026
These terms apply to the Kotozute iPhone app and to this website, including the pages that let someone write to a Kotozute user from a link (“the Service”). By using the Service you agree to them. The app is also covered by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement; where the two differ, these terms add to it rather than replace it.
What Kotozute is
A place to declare a goal and let people you choose write to you while you pursue it. Messages are delivered to your device at a time the sender picks. Your data is stored in your own iCloud; see the privacy policy.
Pro subscription
- Kotozute Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly and yearly, and a one-time pass for a single goal. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and are charged to your Apple ID through the App Store.
- A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your iPhone's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next charge; you keep Pro until the period ends.
- Free trials, when offered, convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless cancelled before then.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store policy. We cannot issue refunds directly.
- Some Pro features — sealed capsules, chains, papers, brushes, the book — are unlocked for the people in your circle when you pay. Whoever pays unlocks their circle; nobody pays to receive a message.
Your content and conduct
Everything you write, photograph, draw or record stays yours. By sending a message you give its recipient permission to keep it, print it in their book, and share that book. Do not use Kotozute to harass, threaten, deceive or demean anyone, to send sexual content involving minors, to impersonate another person, or to break any law. Recipients can mute, block and report a sender at any time, and blocked senders' messages are discarded before the recipient sees them. We may revoke access to the Service for anyone who abuses it.
Writing from a link
A goal's link is meant for people its owner chose to share it with. The owner can turn it off at any time, after which messages sent to it are not delivered. Messages sent from the web are limited in length and in number per hour. You are responsible for what you send.
Availability
Kotozute depends on Apple services (iCloud, CloudKit, push notifications, the App Store) that we do not control. We aim for messages to arrive at the minute they were meant for, but delivery timing depends on your device, its settings and Apple's services, and is not guaranteed. The Service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using Kotozute at any time and delete all of your data from Settings → Delete my account and data. We may suspend or end access for a breach of these terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without affecting rights that the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in gives you. Disputes go to the courts of Tokyo, Japan, unless that law says otherwise.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, the date above changes and the app links here. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
